Clifford's Tower, York

Clifford's Tower, York

The mound or motte upon which Clifford’s Tower stands was built by William the Conqueror in 1068. The stone castle was built on this mound in 1245-1265. The tower has had a long and eventful history and is now one of York’s iconic sights. This image captures clouds scudding over the solid bulk of the castle on a bright, windy day.
