Whiby Abbey

Whiby Abbey

Whitby Abbey was originally founded in 657AD by Oswy, king of Northumbria, and re-established by the Normans following destruction by the Danes. It was dissolved by Henry VIII, and has since become a picturesque ruin on the headland overlooking Whitby. This winter photograph shows the abbey ruins reflected in the ice which had formed on the surface of the fish pond.
