Tornado in Wensleydale

Tornado in Wensleydale

The Wensleydale railway was a victim of the Beeching cuts, reduced to a freight service over only part of its length. Enthusiasts have restored passenger services as far as Bolton Castle, and the line now periodically hosts steam trains.
This photograph shows the LNER Peppercorn Class A1 Tornado (number 60163) at Harmby near Leyburn. Tornado was built in Darlington, completed in 2008, and is the first steam locomotive since 1967 to have run at 100mph on the East Coast Main line.
